MY MAY DAY

Jasmine ElnadeemIMG_4120May Day (1st of May) in Sweden follows the Walpurgis Eve with a wide choice of events, marches and demonstrations taking place across the country to celebrate the working class’ rights.

The 1st of May is a public holiday in Sweden, and many Swedes spend the day either attending the celebrations of political parties and trade unions, or simply enjoying a picnic outdoors with friends and family, weather permitting.

I come from Egypt where I’m used to see the police firing tear gas and arresting dozens to break up the protests. But yesterday the show was different as the celebration is an important cultural experience for most of Swedish people.

For me it looked so pretty like a parade. People gathered at Medborgarplatsen and then everyone walked from there to Kungsträdgården by way of Slussen.

There were probably thousands of people, and you can hear different languages coming out from the demonstration. Of course there were plenty of signs in Swedish. But there were also some signs in English, in Persian and Arabic.

Along with being one of the largest demonstration, it was the loudest. That’s because there were several bands. Hahaha, in fact. many of them were playing at the same time.

In the end it was an exhausting Första Maj, but a fun day and great experience indeed, plus it was a sunny day 🙂

It is not even my birthday yet but I decided to escape the rainy Stockholm on the weekend and treat myself and my boyfriend with a nice spa at Yasuragi.

OMG I didn’t think that the place is so nice till I saw it and then I was blown away. I didn’t even know that Stockholm has such a fine gem.

We went to Hasseludden with the boat to find our hotel which was surrounded with a pretty forest.

Imagine the rainy weather, and the cold temperate then imagine yourself swimming in the pool or one of the hot springs outside overlooking the forest and the Baltic Sea.

I loved the concept of “COME AS YOU ARE”, as upon your arrival you’re given your yukata – the cotton Japanese robe – along with a pair of slippers and a swimsuit. That’s intended to be your clothing during your stay, and you’re totally encouraged to wear it for everything including mealtimes. Awww it was so comfy indeed.

I had a massage, we used the sauna, the steam room, had an amazing healthy Japanese dinner, then I went for a body scrub and a face massage. Believe me I slept like a baby and felt so much energized.

Today I love my Monday but I’m sure that soon I will be longing for a night of “PEACE & QUIET” like that 🙂

Hope y’all enjoyed your weekend! XOXO

A RELAXED WKND

It is Sunday, and it is another beautiful sunny weekend for this spring before it would turn grey and wet again.

In Sweden you might end up spent pretty much the entire winter indoors, so it was about time to just be outside into the wide green fields, the sun and to see some pretty horses.

I took the bus with my boyfriend and we headed to Gärdet, northeast of Östermalm – Stockholm. Its official name is Ladugårdsgärdet. WOW I haven’t been there before and I just felt that I belong to that place especially when it is sunny.

Nature is a beautiful thing and it can be wonderful when you are able to surround yourself with it.

Today isn’t officially the International Day of Happiness, but it was a very happy day indeed. I played with the horses, ran around, soaked up some sun and ate ice-cream.

I wonder why one can not really declare every day to be a day of happiness and share happiness in general.

Sure, you can not just pass over happiness as we do with goods, but maybe there are little things you can do to make others happy. At least on a small scale.

In the end, we came home early to give my baby cats the quality time they deserve and to play with them. Meaw!

Hope y’all had a relaxed weekend too either indoors or outdoors.

Hugs!!
